Phillies place Marsh, Clemens on 10-Day Injured List

Before the Phillies welcome home Rhys Hoskins to Philadelphia, they had to take care of some business.

After leaving Sunday night’s game with an injury, the Phillies have placed Brandon Marsh on the 10-day injured list. Marsh had been hitting .265/.344/.426/.770 OPS in 52 games this season. He has been the most productive outfielder on the main roster and was recently eating back up after a cold spell. The Phillies’ left fielder leads all left fielders with 5 DRS (defensive runs saved) and has played at a Gold Glove level.

Kody Clemens was also placed on the Injured List. Kody was scratched from a start on Sunday with back spasms. He suffered the injury on his last batting practice swing and Whit Merrifield would get the start in his place. Clemens has been a sparkplug for the Phillies, slashing .256/.293/.615/.908 on the season.

Phillies Call Up Wilson and Dahl

To replace both Marsh and Clemens on the roster, the Phillies have called up both Weston Wilson and David Dahl to the main roster. Wilson was already on the 40-man roster, allowing his call-up to be completed with no further transaction. Dahl was not on the 40-man, meaning a player had to be removed in order to make room for the veteran outfielder. The Phillies moved RHP Michael Rucker to the 60-day IL as a result.

Weston Wilson made his Major League debut last season for the Phillies. His debut coincided with the Michael Lorenzen no-hitter, so his spotlight was stolen just a bit.

Wilson has had a slow start to his 2024 season, hitting just .211/.296/.390/.685 in 51 games. In 2023 however, he hit 31 homeruns in Lehigh Valley while also stealing 32 bags.

David Dahl was a free-agent pickup for the Phillies this past off-season. A minor league stash by Dave Dombrowski seemingly is about to pay off. Dahl spent most of his big league career with the Rockies, before bouncing around over the last couple of seasons.

David was an All-Star in 2019 where he has hit for a .302 average. This season in Triple-A, Dahl is slashing .340/.416/.660/1.076 with 12 homeruns. The Phillies will try and capitalize on his recent hot streak in the minors. As a lefty, he will likely replace Marsh’s at-bats for now.
