Phillies prospect Bryson Stott gets nod for MLB Futures Game

Bryson Stott, the No. 2 ranked prospect of the Philadelphia Phillies organization, has been selected to represent the club for the National League team at the 2021 Futures Game during All-Star weekend at Coors Field in Colorado — home of the Rockies — on July 11.

The 23-year-old shortstop was selected in the first round, 14th overall, by the Phillies in 2019, and has quickly risen up the ranks from developmental ball to Double-A.

He started the 2021 season in Advanced-A ball, slashing .288/.453/.548 with five home runs and 10 RBI in 22 games before getting the call up to Reading at the Double-A level, where he hasn’t really slowed down.

In 24 games, Stott is slashing .278/.377/.478 with four home runs and 12 RBI.

The highly-touted prospect’s 2021 began rooming with Phillies slugger Bryce Harper at spring training, to which Stott gained some invaluable experience from one of the best in the game — while impressing the star in the process.

“He’s a very good mix, I would say of J.J. Hardy and Brandon Crawford. A guy who makes every play, not super flashy, but he has the arm like Crawford does and is very good up the middle. I would imagine he has a very similar swing — doubles to left, homers to right — as Garret Anderson if I could imagine that. That’s pretty good praise because he was a very good hitter,” Harper said of Stott back in February (h/t NBC Sports Philadelphia). “He’s a very good player and he’s going to do whatever he can to get to the big leagues, whether that’s playing second or shortstop. The game isn’t too big for him. He’s very even-keeled with a blue-collar mentality that would work in Philadelphia.

“If he pushes the envelope, I think he’s a big-leaguer, I really do. This is what he wants to do. I want him to be here. I think he’s going to be a great ballplayer, but he has to work to be here. If he’s not going to work, then he’s not going to be here.”

Stott will have a great opportunity to get some exposure during All-Star weekend to show the rest of the league what the Phillies have brewing in the pipeline.
