Phillies’ Ranger Suarez & Jeff Hoffman agree to terms to avoid arbitration

Well, it’s the lull between Spring Training and the post-Winter Meetings. But yet moves are happening for the Philadelphia Phillies as they have some guys who need deals to avoid arbitration: Alec Bohm, Gregory Soto, Jeff Hoffman, Edmund Sosa, and Ranger Suárez.

Now that number is down to four.

Phillies make key moves to avoid arbitration

According to Matt Gelb, the Phillies and Suárez agreed to a $5.05 million salary for 2024 while Hoffman signed a deal for a $2.2 million salary for 2024. Suárez is in the second of three arbitration years. He earned $2.95 million last season. The 2025 season will be the last one under contract for Suárez. Hoffman is in his final year of arbitration.

There’s no mistake that Ranger Suárez has made a name for himself in the Phillies’ rotation over the past three seasons and in postseason appearances. In the regular season, he has a 3.19 ERA in 386.3 innings while he boasts a postseason ERA of 1.62 and 0.90 WHIP over 33.3 innings.

Hoffman is in his eighth season in MLB and is seen as a late-inning weapon for Philadelphia. In his 54 appearances, he has a 2.41 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 2023. He often was a reliever who threw a nasty slider that was often tough to hit.
