Phillies Unveil Their West Coast Offense on Recent Road Trip

Dare I say the Phillies are back? In more ways than one, they are.

The Philadelphia Phillies assembled this off-season a squad that was meant to mash baseballs. For the first few weeks of the season, the team had shown flashes but never truly reached their full potential, until now.

The Phillies entered this seven-game road trip with a 12-16 record. The team was floundering after yet another series loss to the New York Mets. The club needed a fresh start and heading out west did the trick. The Phillies’ offense has erupted in both Seattle and Los Angeles and heading into Sunday’s game versus the Dodgers, the Phillies stood at 17-17 for the year. The Phillies won their first series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers since 2015.

However, again, in typical Phillies’ fashion, we can never just have nice things. The offense was back, but so was the Phillies blowing late leads. The recent resurgence was overshadowed by a bad blown lead to prevent the sweep.

Bryce Harper, Jean Segura, and Rhys Hoskins have been the main catalysts for this offensive outburst the past week.

Harper finished the road trip batting .609 with three home runs and eight runs batted in. Jean Segura has really taken off as of late. Starting on May 1st, Jean’s batting average was .229. Following a strong end to the homestand and a revenge series against the Seattle Mariners, Segura has risen his batting average to .305. Between the Mariners and Dodgers games, Jean has hit three home runs and driven in seven runs batted in.

Rhys Hoskins was really starting to fall off hard before the Phils headed to Seattle. The Sacramento kid found his stride on his home coast and has helped jumpstart this offense. Rhys joins Bryce and Jean with three home runs on this road trip and also has driven in seven runs. These hot bats have fueled the Phils’ offense this past week, and hopefully, it joins them on the plane back to Philly on Sunday night.
