Phillies vs Cardinals: Pitching preview

Aaron Nola (6-2, 3.04 ERA) vs Miles Mikolas (3-5, 5.64 ERA)

After another big win, the Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound on Friday night. He’s been electric as of late, allowing 4+ runs just once in his last 10 games. Nola has also stuck out 4+ in each of his last 4, which is absolutely something we could use when looking at prop bets. He faces a Cardinals offense that ranks 17th in batting average this season but 4th over its last 3 games. The Cards are finding some wings and it’s down to Nola to bring them back down to Earth.

Across from Nola will be Miles Mikolas, who has been very solid for St. Louis this season. He’s allowed 6 hits or fewer in 4 of his last 5, giving up 37 runs through 67 innings in the month of May. Philadelphia has been heating up again offensively and have the second-highest batting average in the league. Mikolas will need his best this evening as a result.

Phillies vs Cardinals: Betting preview

The Phillies are favored to win the opening game of this series but the pitching matchup should at least provide some early-inning stability, making the total hard to gauge. Both teams match up very well when it comes down to the bullpen as well. If offense is going to be the difference here, I’m backing the more explosive of the two groups and going with the Phillies to win outright at home.

Betting pick: Phillies -198

Prop bet fun

Aaron Nola’s strikeout line tonight is 6.5. As aforementioned, he’s riding a 4-game streak of striking out 4+, but has only eclipsed this total 5 times in 11 starts. Against a batting lineup that’s finding a rhythm, I’m going to take the value on the UNDER here at -120.
