Phillies vs Mariners: Betting information, picks & prediction

After kicking off their road-trip in dreamy fashion, the Philadelphia Phillies will be hoping to double-up against the 13-16 Seattle Mariners on Tuesday evening. Here’s all you need to know.

Game one

The Phillies shutout Seattle in the opening game of the series, with Ranger Suarez pitching 6 innings, allowing 0 runs and only 4 hits. Chris Flexen, meanwhile, appeared to stumble back into his form at the start of the year, giving up 6 runs and 9 hits in 5 innings. Jean Segura capitalized the most, going 2-for-4 and punching in a homer just for good measure.

The Seattle Mariners (13-16) and Philadelphia Phillies (12-16) will meet on Tuesday at T-Mobile Park, starting at 9:40 PM ET.

Pitching matchup

Aaron Nola (1-3, 3.37 ERA) vs Robbie Ray (2-3, 4.38 ERA)

Nola is going to making start #7 of the season tonight and is coming off of a brilliant outing against the Mets, where he gave up only one run through seven innings. He’s really picked up the slack recently and now ranks 10th in strikeouts per nine innings. His WHIP is at a career-low (and 9th in the MLB) and is striking out batters 31% of the time. If he can stay hot, this Mariners offense that looked to hit a brick wall last night, might just headbutt it again this evening.

Robbie Ray is the man taking the mound for Seattle and is a simialrly notable name who can go deep into games. The veteran hasn’t been as clinical as Nola up to this point, but is still among the upper echelon of starting pitchers. The Phillies seem to be heating up though and currently rank 6th in the MLB in total hits. The issue has been converting those into runs, which wasn’t a problem last night. If Nola can silence the Seattle bats, it’s going to put a lot of pressure on Ray and the Mariners.

Betting information

The Phillies are slight underdogs going into this matchup at +100 and I like those odds. Nola has been lights out over his last few starts and Robbie Ray may struggle to keep the Phils quiet for long. Getting the Phillies at plus money feels like a nice play here.
