Phillies vs Marlins: Betting preview & prediction for Tuesday September 13th

The Phillies and Marlins will chaotically clash again on Tuesday night, re-igniting a season-long rivalry that just refuses to burn out. The Phils won 2 out of 3 games in the last series the teams contested and they’ll be hoping to go one better this time.

Marlins vs Phillies odds

Moneyline: Miami (-130) | Philadelphia (+110)

Run line: Miami -1.5 (+162) | Philadelphia +1.5 (-195)

Run total: Over 7 (-120) | Under 7 (+100)

Pitching matchup

Sandy Alcantara (12-7, 2.43 ERA) vs. Bailey Falter (4-3, 4.02 ERA)

Bailey Falter going up against a Cy Young favorite is probably why the Phillies are underdogs going into this matchup. Everywhere else, the Phils have the advantage, but Alcantara has been electric this season. Per StatMuse, he’s 6-6 against the Phillies in his career with an ERA allowed of 3.19, and 89 strikeouts through 14 appearances.

It should be noted that the Phillies have pushed 7 combined runs past him through his last two starts, however.

We also shouldn’t write off Falter. He hasn’t exactly been terrible so far. His last start came against the Marlins where he allowed two runs through 5 innings. If he can put up similar numbers today, then it’s going to force Alcantara to play like a Cy Young winner, because anything else might not be enough given the contrast between the Phillies and Marlins offenses.

Betting preview

The Phillies are currently second place in the wild card race, while the Marlins will miss the playoffs (again). This is a series the Phils can’t afford to let pass them by, as each game begins to carry a little more weight. They may be underdogs today, but it’s one of the few times I’m happy to bet behind them in that scenario.
