Aaron Nola is entering Tuesday’s matchup looking to put his previous outing in the rearview mirror. The right-hander could not make it out of the fourth inning on Thursday in Fenway, allowing eight runs across 11 hits on the day. The outing was poor enough to jump his ERA from 2.77 to 3.48 on the season.
The Padres will bring out Michael King, who most recently struck out 12 Oakland Athletics batters across five frames of two-run work on Wednesday. On the month of June, King has pitched 17 innings across three starts, allowing three runs with 21 strikeouts overall.
This is a good pitching matchup tonight, but Aaron Nola certainly has the edge. Combine a strong Nola outing with a hot offense and there is only one choice to be made going tonight.
