Phillies vs. Reds betting preview for Wednesday August 24th, 2022

Larry David once taught us that if you show up to a party early, make yourself at home and touch everything. Nick Maton has made himself at home in Philadelphia, and not even a 5-foot-fence could’ve stopped that splash.

Now, it’s a nice story, but it’s still pretty, pretty annoying. The Phillies almost blew the game against a team that won’t sniff the playoffs for the next three years.

We all saw what happened against the Mets over the last two weeks and, even sin-Bryce Harper, anything less than a sweep in this series would be disappointing.

The Phillies need to roll up those sweater sleeves and get back to work following an emotional win because October is looming. Let’s make some money.

Pitching matchup Wednesday, August 24th – 7:05p @ Citizens Bank Park

T.J. Zeuch (0-2, 13.50 ERA) v. Cristopher Sánchez (1-1, 3.80 ERA)

Phillies

Sánchez returns to CBP for the first time since July 10th, and it could be an excellent showcase for a potential Phillies playoff roster spot.

With Seranthony Dominguez hitting the 15-Day-IL and Corey Knebel’s season being cut criminally short, someone that could go a couple of innings out of the bullpen has tremendous value.

Righties have only been good for a .167 BA against Sánchez this season, and the Reds lineup figures to feature six of them. All signs point to a bullpen game, but if the youngster is going to step up, Cincinnati is the opponent.

Reds

It’s good to know your enemy, and Zeuch’s an intriguing one. The 27-year-old former first-round pick has allowed six earned runs in his pair of 2022 starts. Over that stretch, batters are hitting .425 against the 6’7 right-hander.

One of those starts came against the Phillies just eight days ago. Philadelphia went on to win that game and put up eleven runs.

This, of course, is a long way of saying I’m not expecting much from this pair of starters. You can always take the OVER of 8.5 runs (-120; $10 to win $8.33), but that’s no fun, so we’re getting rich elsewhere.

Best Bets and Where to Find Them

Nick Castellanos and Bryson Stott have been hot. Castellanos already has three hits in the series, and even with Stott taking the day off yesterday, he made the most of his single at-bat.

Kyle Schwarber doesn’t have a home run since August 5th. Injuries will do that, but the big man is due for number 35. He still only sits behind Aaron Judge for the MLB lead (48, which he won’t catch), and still leads the National League. He has a three-homer lead over Paul Goldschmidt.

So join me in suffering through all nine innings with a parlay spicer than the ghost peppers of the Yucatan.

Phillies Daily Fantasy Pick of the Day

I think Maton has earned himself a start, and it makes all too much send versus right-handed pitching.

In twenty plate appearances against righties, he’s hitting .438 with an OPS of 1.313. That’s money in the bank and only $2,600 on FanDuel.
