The 4-7 Philadelphia Phillies are back in action tonight as they look to try to stop the bleeding against the 7-3 Colorado Rockies. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Phillies struggled to do much of anything offensively last night. Chad Kuhl was able to keep the blanket firmly over the Phils’ hitters and the lack of noise was deafening. Aaron Nola pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs en-route to a 1-2 record on the season. Kuhl didn’t give up a single run and only allowed 2 hits.
The Phillies will send Kyle Gibson to the mound tonight in a battle of the Kyle’s. He’s 1-1 through two starts with a 3.09 ERA, with his most recent outing dampening what was a pretty hot start. The Marlins forced 4 runs out of the rightie.
His opponent, Kyle #2 (Freeland) is 0-2 on the season and has a ridiculous 10 ERA and batter have a .350 average against him. There’s no reason that shouldn’t continue against the Phillies. He was dismantled in a 6-1 loss last year, and reigning NL MVP, Bryce Harper will be looking to get something going against a pitcher he’s oddly struggled against in the past.
The Phillies are actually favored going into this matchup by -130, while the total remains at 11.5. The Phillies have struggled on the road over the past year or so but this pitching matchup is advantageous. While 11 runs still seems way too high for a Phils offense that can barely manage a hit without messing it up, it has to be noted that Kyle Gibson is going up against a very hot Rockies offense who still found a way to get past Aaron Nola.
I’m going to sit firmly on yesterday’s pick though and double down. The Phillies just don’t have enough on-form firepower to put up enough runs to challenge that total, even if the Rockies put up 6 or 7
