Philly AIDS Thrift recently distributed more than $358,000 in grants to local organizations and programs focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support.
The new donations bring the group’s lifetime total to a major milestone—as of this week, Philly AIDS Thrift
“To be able to have such a profound impact on programs that are doing tremendous work on behalf of individuals and communities impacted by HIV/AIDS across the Delaware Valley is truly humbling,” said Philly AIDS Thrift’s Board President Michael Byrne. “We are forever grateful for our staff, our volunteers, our donors, and our loyal customers — thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts.”

Philly AIDS Thrift’s Grant Program began in 2014. Since then, it has grown exponentially, awarding over 250 grants to more than 50 organizations.
“It is amazing to all of us that we have reached this monumental milestone,” said Philly AIDS Thrift’s Executive Director and Cofounder Christina Kallas-Saritsoglou. “Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly every day to ensure we can make the biggest difference possible in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.”
Philly AIDS Thrift has supported local communities affected by HIV/AIDS for the past 20 years. In 2014, the nonprofit took over the operation of Giovanni’s Room, the oldest LGBT & Feminist bookstore in the nation. Four years later, they purchased the building—securing the historic bookstore for future generations. Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room features thrift items, as well as used and new books.

Philly AIDS Thrift also offers a HIV testing center inside their retail store. Testing is done clinically and professionally with various HIV/AIDS charity organizations to provide no charge, drop-in, rapid testing, and related counseling services.
Donations are always welcome, and will turn into sales that create the funds awarded in future grant cycles.
