One person has been arrested and 36 birds seized Tuesday after the discovery of a cockfighting ring in Philadelphia’s Huntington Park neighborhood, according to multiple reports.
Executing a search warrant,Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals found the birds inside a residence on North Lee Street, then brought them to its Eerie Avenue location for treatment, according to a report from Fox 29. RELATED: Former Comcast exec sentenced for upskirt pictures on SEPTA “Cockfighting is a brutal crime in which all animals involved suffer severe physical trauma,” George Bengal, the agency’s director of humane law enforcement told Philly.com’s Robert Moran. “We want to remind the public that animal fighting is a felony and cannot be tolerated.” Philly.com also reported that one person had been arrested.
