Philly deep freeze closes Diocesan schools, delays openings for others

Schools throughout the city and suburbs are either shutting down or delaying the start of classes Friday because of the deep freeze that’s descended on Philly.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has closed all its parochial schools in the city; and its a mixed bag otherwise with some suburban districts and private schools delaying the start of classes or also shutting down.

At 7 a.m., the temperature was 1 degrees — with a -16 wind chills. Winds could gust up to 30 mph through 11 a.m.

The temps will stay in the teens all day, return to the single digits tonight and rise to 34 on Saturday, and 43 on Sunday. Snow or rain will fall Saturday afternoon and night, once more making driving hazardous.
