Philadelphia is calling on thousands of residents to help bring the world’s biggest sporting event to life.

FIFA and Philadelphia Soccer 2026, the nonprofit local host committee working with the city to stage FIFA World Cup 26, officially opened registration for the tournament’s volunteer program. Organizers say more than 3,000 volunteers will be needed when Philadelphia hosts matches during the monthlong global event in summer 2026.

“Hosting the FIFA World Cup 26 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our city, and volunteers will play a critical role in ensuring Philadelphia shines on the global stage,” said Alison Grove, senior director of strategy, operations and partnerships for Philadelphia Soccer 2026.

Applications are now open at fifaworldcup.com/volunteers. More than 7,000 people are expected to apply for the coveted spots, which come with official FIFA uniforms, meals during shifts, recognition items and certificates.

No prior experience is required to join the FIFA World Cup 26 volunteer team, but applicants must meet several criteria. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and commit to a minimum of eight shifts during the tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

They should be able to speak English, though additional languages are considered a plus, and must pass a background review. All participants are also required to attend in-person team tryouts and complete training sessions before the event.

Volunteer tryouts will run from October through January.

A hub in Center City

The city’s new Volunteer Center will be based at Fashion District Philadelphia, 901 Market Street. The space will serve as a central hub for recruitment, training, and community-building among volunteers.

Organizers say the program is designed to reflect the diversity and passion of Philadelphia, offering locals the chance to greet fans from around the world and help create memorable experiences.

“Whether you’re a lifelong soccer fan or simply proud to represent Philadelphia, this is your chance to create a truly unforgettable fan experience for visitors from around the world,” Grove said. “We’re calling on the community to answer the call, get involved, and be part of history.”
