Philly hotspots offer plenty of savory specials this weekend

Looking to try something different this weekend? Metro highlights local eateries that are offering plenty of Philly flavor—with both delicious cuisine and local spirits.

MilkBoy Rock Salt

This local brand is known for their recording studio in Northern Liberties as well as their two bar-restaurant locations, but some might not know of their hidden outdoor gem, Rock Salt. Milkboy has transformed their 4th and South location into a roofed and heated streetery dubbed ‘Rock Salt’ that is chock full of hot cocktails including a Rock ‘n’ Rye Toddy with Rock and Rye, honey, lemon, and clove ($13); a Fireside Cider made with warm apple cider with Fireball ($12); a Boilo — a traditional Western PA coal miner concoction with whiskey, lemon, orange, clove, allspice berries, cinnamon, raisins, clover honey ($14); Hot Buttered Rum — essentially start making pie crust but instead of baking, add rum and hot water ($13); and an array of hot chocolates including the S’more Please, with Kahlua, caramel liquor, salt, topped with marshmallows; and the Peanut Butter Sundae made with Skrewball Whiskey, Bailey’s.

To make the meal more spirited, Philadelphians also have the option to add on pre-built cocktails for two, including a Sazerac ($26) or Hurricane ($26) available for pre-order now for pick up on either Feb. 4 or 5 with 24 hours notice. Pickup will be at Rex 1516, and meals are ready to heat and serve and come with instructions.

Evil Genius Beer Company

Evil Genius Beer Pop-Up

Evil Genius might not be able to operate out of their “lab” in Fishtown right now, but they have figured out a way to still give Philly a taste of what they have to offer. The brand now has two pop-up locations at the Kwik-E Beer Pop-up Shops at 702 N. 2nd Street and 1602 Spruce Street that offer new brews and merchandise. The concept was developed to bring Evil Genius into new places in an all-new way, and to ensure that Evil Genius can continue to keep employees working through the pandemic. Philadelphians can try some of their most popular concoctions including the Brunch So Hard Mango and Orange IPA, Purple Monkey Dishwasher Chocolate PB Porter, or sort through an assortment of Evil Genius gear while there.
