Philly Indie Book Fair celebrates literary creativity and diversity while showcasing local talent and unique voices

The Philly Indie Book Fair, presented by Just For Us Girls Foundation and Literacy Moments Magazine, is set to open up the summer season with a celebration of literary creativity and diversity.

Hosted at Inquiry Charter School’s schoolyard, the fair will take place on Saturday, June 29, and feature meet-and-greets with some of the region’s most talented indie authors, panel discussions where guests can gain insights from industry experts on topics such as self-publishing, marketing, and the future of indie books, vendor booths, and much more.

The event marks the official launch of the Just For Us Girls Foundation and Literacy Moments Magazine’s summer reading challenge for families, “Reading Beyond the Horizon,” an initiative that promotes literacy and a love for reading. The event will also support two school libraries in obtaining books through donations from Indie, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color authors as a part of this initiative.

The fair will also introduce the YouTube show “Read With ME!” which will feature over 100 authors from around the country who will be reading their books aloud. This show aims to bring stories to life and engage readers of all ages in a unique and interactive way with activities and more.

“The Philly Indie Book Fair is a celebration of the creative spirit that drives the independent publishing community,” said Kym Oglesby, the event organizer. “We are excited to provide a platform for local talent to shine and for readers to discover their next favorite book while supporting our summer reading challenge and school libraries.”

This year, the fair will take place on Saturday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the Philly Indie Book Fair is free, making it an accessible and welcoming event for all. Whether you’re a seasoned book lover or just starting your literary journey, this fair offers something for everyone.
