Philly is back on the runway

From contemporary to ready-to-wear to couture, there’s something for every closet at the second annual Philadelphia Fashion Week.

“Fashion Week in Philadelphia is so wonderful because it pertains to so many different markets, not just the fashion industry,” says Kristie Bergey, executive director of this week’s events. “The city has a rich history of art.”

In addition to more designers (this year boasts 29 from nine countries), there are now theme nights: Local and Eco (Wednesday), Student Night (Thursday), Streetwear (Friday) and Contemporary Couture?(Saturday).

Pamela Ptak, a designer whose self-named line will premiere for the first time, says that because the city has a “boutique-y, fun feel” to it, it will be much different than New York Fashion Week, where she has shown before.

The week also promises live music, DJs and even dance performances. “They’re not just there to see a show,” says Ptak of her audience. “There’s a special aesthetic that makes them feel like they’re part of it.”
