Philly man ordered to complete rehabilitative program after beating ex-girlfriend’s dog with bat

A pit bull named Ruby is on her way to recovery after a South Philly man beat her with a baseball bat and is now ordered to complete a rehab program to teach him a lesson

Andrew Wallace, 41, of South Philly, was ordered Friday to complete an Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program after he was charged with cruelty to animals, simple assault and possession of an instrument of crime, according to a Pennsylvania SPCA spokeswoman.

Police say, back In September, he beat his ex-girlfriend’s dog with a baseball bat in a fit of rage. He’ll be spending the next 18 months in the ARD program to prevent future incidents and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine, as well as enroll in anger management classes.

“That monetary figure will be utilized to help pay for the treatment of this dog,” Gillian Kocher, a spokeswoman for the SPCA told Metro Friday.

“She’s currently undergoing treatment to recover fully and go on to live a long, happy life.

“Hopefully Wallace will certainly prove to educate not only himself, but others, that it’s not a way to treat an animal and that there are penalties for this type of action. Ruby has been with her mom back at home.”
