Philly officials announce 2021 Broad Street Run

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell recently announced that the 2021 Blue Cross Broad Street Run will take place on Sunday, Oct. 10.

Over the last 40 years the Blue Cross Broad Street Run has become the largest 10 miler in the country, the largest municipal-led race, and the nation’s sixth largest road race. Like many races across the country, last year’s Broad Street Run was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Philly’s premier road race back to the city this fall,” said Ott Lovell. “The Broad Street Run is one of our city’s signature events, and we can’t wait to see everyone back on Broad Street in October. You don’t have to run to be a part of the race to enjoy the excitement of the Broad Street Run. Enjoy all the fun and festivities and the spirit of Philadelphia that makes our 10 mile race the best in the country.”

Participants in the May 2020 Broad Street Run are guaranteed entry into this year’s race. Registration for the 2021 Blue Cross Broad Street Run will open on July 15, at 12:01 a.m. for those who are guaranteed entry.  All runners who are guaranteed entry must complete their registration by July 29, at 11:59 p.m. The 2021 race fee is $57. 2020 participants will receive a 20 percent discount at registration.

In the event that all spots are not filled by 2020 registrants, there will be a limited lottery to fill any remaining spots.

“As we celebrate our 25th year of sponsorship of the iconic Blue Cross Broad Street Run, we look forward to a successful – and safe – event,” said Gregory E. Deavens, Independence president and CEO. “Our support is particularly special this year because we are not only promoting exercise and good health, but also Philadelphia’s continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
