Philly police kill pit bull attacking woman on their squad car

Philadelphia police killed a dog as it was attacking a woman who jumped on their car to get away from the animal.

Just after 11 p.m. on the 3200 block of N. American Street, police responded to numerous 911 calls describing a woman, 27, being attacked by a dog, NBC10 reported.

“That female actually jumped on the hood of the police car when police arrived on the scene in an attempt to get away from the dog. The dog continued to bite [her],” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small was quoted by CBS3.

Police said to Fox29 that the officers exited their vehicle and shot the dog, freeing the woman from the attack but fatally wounding the animal, which died a short time later. Police described the pit bull as “larger than normal.”

The victim, listed in stable condition, was taken to Episcopal Hospital where she was treated for bite wounds to her left arm and leg, according to NBC10.

Police told Fox29 that the dog’s owner lived on the same block where the incident happened.

“The dog, from witnesses, was on a leash, but the dog got out of the leash just prior to the attack,” Small told CBS3.
