A 21-year-old man has been charged with firing a paintball gun at people in a daylong spree around Northwest Philadelphia, hitting five strangers, Philly police announced Friday.
Kadene Bryant, of the 6200 block of Homer Street, allegedly went on the spree on March 7, police said. He and an unidentified accomplice allegedly shot paintballs from a minivan, hitting people in Germantown, Roxborough and Manayunk. Some reported minor injuries from the exploding paint pellets.
Now he’s charged with five counts of aggravated assault, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison, authorites said.
Victims reported the following attacks to police, all of which took place on March 7:
-1:35 p.m., 8100 Ridge Avenue: Suspects drove up next to victim in a white minivan, lowered the passenger side window, shot him two times with a paintballgun, then fled. Hesuffered two welt spots on his chest, which did not require medical attention.
-8:40 p.m., 6600 Ridge Avenue: Victim was walking when he was shot in the leg and stomach. He fled, and was later treated at Roxborough Hospital.
-9:25 p.m., 215 West Walnut Lane: Victim was in the area when he was shot in the head with a paintball by a man in a white minivan. Victim did not suffer any injuries.
-11:08 p.m., 6000 Ridge Avenue: Victim was riding his bike when minivan drove up, and man inside shot him in the left eye with a paintball. Victim required six stitches to his eye, police said.
-11:36 pm, 600 Wises Mill Road: Victim was jogging when he was shot in the back by a paintball, knocking him to the ground. He suffered scrapes to his hands.
The investigation remains open, and detectives are searching for a second suspect, who allegedly took part in the incident.
