Philly prepares with boozy supplies as storm looms

As Philly braced itself for a wintry blast, locals stocked up on provisions — including plenty of alcohol — to enjoy their time at home.

“If one does get snowed in, it’s better to have some wine,” said Ann Keefer, 44, who was picking up a bottle of Chaddsford spiced apple wine, vinted in Central Pa.

“I’m a little bit doubtful that it’s gonna be as bad as it’s supposed to be,” Keefer said of “Winter Storm Juno,” which is forecast to dump 12 to 18 inches over the region on Tuesday, which is also her birthday.

Carrying a bag full of whiskey bottles, Dave Kay, 27, acknowledged that he was stocking up, but said it was “no more than usual.”

His favorite cold-weather drink? “Whiskey,” he said.

“Who needs bread? Who needs milk?” joked Suzanne Bachman, who was buying kahlua and whiskey at a Fine Wine & Good Spirits in Center City, of preparing for the storm.

“I pour it in hot chocolate and that’s my cold weather drink,” she said.

Philadelphians were flocking to acquire a variety of supplies Monday in advance of the snowfall, but said they weren’t scared of Juno.

“It’s just business as usual to me,” said Erick Alfisi, 27, as he left Trader Joe’s in Center City.

“I’m not getting crazy. I’m not in a panic. I just want to make sure I have something in the house,” said senior citizen Miki Farcas as she carried bags of groceries out of Trader Joe’s.

Meanwhile, several other residents were shopping at liquor stores in advance of the storm. One woman was shopping for booze while pushing a baby carriage with two infants in it.

“I know where my priorities are,” said a man buying liquor at a Fine Wine & Good Spirits store in Center City.

“Work might be canceled tomorrow, so I need to stock up,” said a woman buying several bottles of wine.

Oddly, no one shopping for alcohol in Center City before noon was willing to give their name for publication.

The Peppermint Patty: Pour peppermint schnapps and Hershey’s chocolate syrup in your mouth, mix it around and drink it.

The Haircut: one shot whiskey, half-shot Amaretto, add Coke.

The Klondike: one shot Bailey’s, one shot Kahlua, one shot peppermint schnapps, one shot Frangelico hazelnut liquor, one shot Half and Half
