Philadelphia kicked off Pride Month on Sunday with its annual Philly Pride March and Festival, celebrating this year’s theme, ‘Love Unity and Visibility.’
This year’s march is an ode to The Reminder Day Demonstrations that were held in front of Independence Hall on Chestnut Street from 1965 until 1969 to raise awareness of bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination toward the LGBTQ+ community and to send the message that “Gay is good.” The 1972 Pride Day March concluded at the same spot 50 years ago. Sunday kicked off with speakers, before making its way down the route to finish up in the Gayborhood.
The Festival that followed featured over 200 small businesses, stages with performances, entertainers, artists, vendors, food trucks, community organizations, and local bars all showing off their Pride.
“Philly Pride 2025 wasn’t just a celebration, it was a movement. While exact numbers are still being finalized, one thing is clear: an overwhelming number of people showed up to be seen, heard, and loved,” Louisa Mfum-Mensah, Vice President of Partner Experience, Urban Affairs Coalition said on Sunday. “This year’s Pride was the most unapologetically joyful. From the crowd to the colors to the courage on display, it was truly unforgettable.”
