Philly public pools open for an extra week

Most of Philly’s public pools closed this week, but nineof them will stay open for an extra week.

Mayor Michael Nutter’s spokesman Mark McDonald told Metro that the city Parks and Rec department wanted to keep the pools open because of the late Labor Day and school starting a bit later.

The nine pools will close at the end of the day on Thurday, Aug. 27.

The nine pools staying open longer are the following, according tothe blogphillypublicpools.com:

Kelly (in Fairmount Park, next to the Please Touch Museum)

Mander (on the edge of East Fairmount Park, at 33rd and Diamond)

Vare (at 26th and Morris in South Philly)

Max Myers (at Hellerman and Horrocks, just north of the Boulevard off Bustleton in the Northeast)

Waterloo (at Cumberland and Waterloo in Kensington)

Awbury (at Ardleigh and Haynes, by the Awbury Arboretum in Germantown)

Feltonville (off Wyoming between A and B, a few blocks south of the Boulevard)

Vogt (at Unruh and Cottage, in the Tacony section of the Northeast)

Christy (at 56th and Christian in West Philly)
