Fun things to do in Philly this weekend

Looking for some fun and unique things to do in Philly this weekend? We’ve got you covered.

McGillan’s

To celebrate the Birds playing this weekend, this staple sports bar in Philly is serving up some spirited food and drinks. For the 2nd time in 163 years, the oldest bar in the city will offer green beer on a day other than St. Patrick’s day to show some support for the Philadelphia Eagles.

McGillan’s will also don Eagles flags outside and Eagles decor inside along with additional food and drink specials for the game, including its original “Iggle-tini.”

Spa Week at The Reeds

It’s the weekend, so it’s about that time to relax. And to help with that, one New Jersey spa is offering some special services until the 29th of this month.

Spa Week was founded by The Reeds at Shelter Haven in Stone Harbor and is said to offer “two levels of pure relaxation”. According to the Salt Spa’s website offerings span: a Brine Lounge and Turkish Bath; a blow-out bar and makeup application studio for weddings or a night out on the town; nail care with a manicure and pedicure studio; waxing and tanning services and a fully-equipped fitness center.

Lunar New Year at Live! Casino & Hotel

To celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia will host a special “Cai Qing” ceremony this Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m. The event will feature an evening of authentic performances, arts and crafts, and entertainment such as name painting and a face-changing artist at its center bar.

Then, at 8 p.m., Live! will present a traditional “Cai Qing” Ceremony (pronounced Chai Ching), a customary ritual, featuring the “picking of the greens” by the “Lion” to bless the New Year and bring prosperity, a release states. Following the ceremony, Lion Dancers and Live! executives will then lead a parade across the casino floor, handing out red envelopes to bring good luck to guests at 10 p.m.

And finally, to celebrate the Lunar New Year in a culinary way, Philadelphians can head to Luk Fu to try out a special menu (which will be offered until Feb. 5) which includes lamb belly hot pot, a steamed whole fish, abalone herb soup and more. There will also be specialty cocktails served in partnership with Hennessey.

Positano Coast Themed Brunch

Every month, Positano Coast will be hosting a new-themed brunch, with this month’s being ‘The Wizard of Oz’ themed. On Sunday, Jan. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Philadelphians can check out the newly transformed space (which will look like a scene out of the Emerald City with a 20-foot long yellow brick road, full size movie cut-outs and a special backdrop for selfies and photos) and food and drink specials.

Themed cocktails will be pouring at the bar and DJ Kiko will be spinning a special Emerald City mix. From the kitchen, diners can look for brunch dishes like french toast with Grand Marnier and berries, Belgian waffles with vanilla bean gelato and mixed berries, sausage and peppers skillet, brunch burger, smoked salmon flatbread, zucchini frittata, lobster skillet, zucchini crabcake and more, according to a release.

Future brunches at Positano include a 90s Retro Brunch on Sunday, Feb. 26, and an old-fashioned Toga Brunch Party on Sunday, March 26.
