Philly: Where to watch the 2015 Women’s World Cup

Hey soccer fans. We know it’s really hard to divert your attention from the ongoing scandal embroiling FIFA. But guess what? There are actual games being played. Right now! By some of the best athletes in the sport.

It’s the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Sure, the prize money is a fraction – about 2 percent – of that offered to men but hey, at least it’s soccer. And with 24 teams in the tournament, this year is the biggest yet. And unlike the men’s world cup, the U.S. team has a chance of winning this thing.

The action kicked off over the weekend with host country Canada besting China and Netherlands beating New Zealand.

On Monday, the U.S. team gets its first game of the tournament when it plays Australia at 7:30 p.m. ET. There’s a complete TV schedule here.

For those who don’t have Fox Sports 1 or Fox Sports 2, the channel that will show most of the tournament in the U.S., here’s a list of bars that are known by soccer fans to show games.

Fado’ Irish Pub — 1500 Locust Street. This bar is an official U.S. Soccer bar, which means they’ve pledged to show every U.S. men’s game. Don’t worry, they’ve got a big banner on their website saying they’ll be showing the women’s tournament. And they’re the official home bar for the Philadelphia-chapter of the U.S. Outlaws, the massive booster club for U.S. national teams.

The 700 — 700 N. 2nd Street — This Northern Liberties spot has a solid beer menu and an upstairs lounge that features a rotating cast of DJ’s. They also have a deep love for the beautiful game.

Misconduct Tavern — 1511 Locust Street — It’s a nautical-themed bar with creative bar food and a good drinks list. They’ve made lots of “good burger” lists.

Liberty Bar and Grille — 2204 Market Street — It’s another officials U.S. Soccer bar, the only other one in Philly, and no, we don’t have any idea why Irish pubs seem to be so into soccer. Inexpensive drinks and bar food, known as the type of place where one drink leads to two
