This weekend, locals can watch the city take flight—with the Philly Flights: A Mid-Winter Solo Fest that is.
The occasion features three independent artists—Chris Davis, Rachel O’Hanlon-Rodriguez, and Izzy Sazak—all of whom will hit the stage at the historic Plays and Players Theatre (in the third floor Skinner Studio) with their own unique show.
As a release notes, there’s a little something for everyone in this mini-festival: Chris Davis’ ’40 Year Old Ballerino’ mixes dance and storytelling in a 50-minute comedy show that proves change is always possible; Rachel O’Hanlon-Rodriguez’s ‘She Was A Conquistawhore’ is a bawdy poetic solo show examining cultural wounds as personal afflictions in “a world where vaginas can grow up to be cowboys”; and Izzy Sazak’s ‘Tiny Witch’ blends clown with original lore, to create a performance that “is part anti-imperialist fantasy fiction, part stand-up, and all queer witchy sass.”
Davis, who has been training at the Amy Novinski Ballet Studio in South Philadelphia’s Bok Building six days a week for the past year in preparation for the upcoming production, will hit the stage on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 7 p.m. and Sunday (Feb. 23) at noon.

O’Hanlon-Rodriguez’ (she/they)—a Philly based actor, poet, organizer, trauma informed teaching artist and facilitator—will follow suit on Friday (Feb. 21) at 7 p.m. and Saturday (Feb. 22) at 9 p.m.
And lastly (but certainly not least), Sazak (they/them)— a “a queer, genderful, Turkish-Colombian-American trans-disciplinary artist, theater-maker, world-builder, clown and facilitator”—will bring their show to life on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 7 p.m. and Sunday (Feb. 23) at noon.
Tickets (available via Eventbrite) are $20 per show, and once you purchase tickets to your first show, you’ll also receive a $5 off code for another Mid-Winter Solo Fest of your choice.
