A small plane crashed in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday, with multiple casualties being reported by local media outlets.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue at approximately 6:07 p.m. Multiple videos online show the plane falling from the sky, followed by a massive explosion, with several fires erupting throughout the densely populated neighborhood.
Various media outlets are reporting that at least five people were on the plane when it crashed.
Mayor Cherelle Parker warned residents to stay clear of the area, “We’re urging you to please stay away from the scene. If see debris, call 911. Don’t touch anything. This is an active scene and still under investigation.”
The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management reported a “major incident” and alerted residents that all roads in the area are closed.
Weather conditions were rainy with very limited visibility at the time of the crash.
Gov. Josh Shapiro stated on X, “I’ve spoken with @PhillyMayor and my team is in communication with @PhillyPD, @PhilaOEM, and @PhillyFireDept. We are offering all Commonwealth resources as they respond to the small private plane crash in Northeast Philly. We’ll continue to provide updates as more information.”
