Poi Dog and Di Bruno Bros. team up for new Thanksgiving experience

Island life meets Turkey Day when Poi Dog and Di Bruno Bros. combine forces. This weekend, the Island x Italian Thanksgiving experience from the partnership of these gourmet curators will span holiday pop-ups, a Hawaiian take on Turkey Day leftovers, reinvented classics, wine pairings and more.

Plus, as a release states, shoppers can purchase ingredients for chef-approved recipes to reinvent Thanksgiving leftovers at home, curated by the experts at Di Bruno Bros., and Chefs Aranita and Miller of Poi Dog.

For one special addition from the team up, from now until Nov. 22, all Di Bruno locations (minus the one on 9th street) will be serving the Huli Huli Gobbler. This ” island-inspired take on the iconic Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich” features house-roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, lettuce, and is served on a fresh roll slathered in a savory, pineapple-forward Poi Dog Huli Huli mayo for $14.99. If that doesn’t entice your tastebuds though, the duo also is serving up Huli Huli Chicken Wings as well for $16.99 a dozen. 

In terms of pop-ups from the collab, there are two to keep an eye out for this weekend. Friday, Nov. 17, Philadelphians can head to Di Bruno Bros.’ Wayne location (385 West Lancaster Ave.) from 5 to 8 p.m. where Chefs Aranita and Miller will be on-site answering guests’ chef and Thanksgiving cuisine-related inquiries, while offering samples of Poi Dog Huli Huli Dip and Chili Peppah Water. 

While there, a few specialty menu items will also be served up, including Chili Peppah Water Mac and Cheese (aka a mac and cheese with beer cheese sauce made with New School American Cheese, toasted panko, and the traditional Hawaiian table condiment, Poi Dog Chili Peppah Water), plus the Gobbler and wings.  

Then, on Nov. 18, another pop-up will take place, this time at Piazza Di Bruno (inside the Italian Market at 920 S. 9th Street) from noon to 3 p.m. Chefs Aranita and Miller of Poi Dog will be popping-up with pay-as-you-go menu items spanning the Chili Peppah Water Mac & Cheese, Gobbler and the addition of Huli Huli Hot Dog and the Huli Huli Spam Musubi. 

The first boasts an all-beef dog grilled over charcoal topped with Poi Dog Huli Huli sauce, pickled red cabbage and black sesame on a roll for $5, while the latter is described as “the Poi Dog classic fans miss, know and love with a Poi Dog Huli Huli kiss.” 

As a release states, a Di Bruno Bros.’ wine tent featuring a new release, Di Bruno & Friends Wine #8 ($12/glass, $34.99/bottle), in collaboration with Division Winemaking Company in Portland, Oregon, will be offered to those who come out this weekend for purchase as well. The wine is 100% Gamay Noir from Eola Hills in Willamette Valley, OR., and tastes like “dark cherry, raspberry, violet, chrysanthemum, and is balanced by great structure and a media-bodied mouth feel.”
