The Philadelphia Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with an incident in which a nine-month-old child had to be revived with the opioid-blocking Narcan, after it was found Wednesday with a needle in its leg.
According to police, officers arrested Steven Welsh, of the 200 block of Green Lane in Manaunk after a nine-month-old girl, who he lives with – in a statement, police did not detail the relationship between Welsh and the child – was found in Welsh’s home after being stuck with a hypodermic needle, at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The child was found unresponsive by officers responding to the scene, police said, and the child needed to be revived with the opioid-blocking drug, Narcan.
According to law enforcement officials, the child was admitted to Chestnut Hill Hospital for an “accidental overdose” and was in stable condition as of Friday morning.
Welsh was arrested shortly after the child was taken to the hospital. He has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and reckless endangerment of another person.
