A 12-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Sunday morning after being shot by his 10-year-old brother in the bedroom of a Strawberry Mansion home, police said.

Authorities responded just after 11:15 a.m. to the house, on the 2600 block of N. Hollywood Street. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to his chest, and he was later listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital, police said.

Investigators recovered the gun and continue to investigate the incident. There was no word on possible charges.

“A 12-year-old child has just been shot by a 10-year-old sibling with a gun that was left unattended by an adult,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said Sunday in a statement.

“Tragedies such as these have an impact on everyone, from the immediate family to the community, and everyone in between: siblings, parents, grandparents, friends, teachers, doctors, police officers, and neighbors,” she added. “Our thoughts are with the survivors.”
