Police: Grenade that prompted evacuation of South Philadelphia block was ‘a toy’

An entire Point Breeze block was evacuated this evening after police found what was believed to be a grenade in an alley on the 1800 block of Titan Street.

The bomb squad was called to the street around 4:45 p.m. They determined 15 minutes later that the grenade was “hollowed out, basically a toy,” Lt. Ray Evers said.

No injuries were reported.
