Police ID woman slain in Christmas hit-and-run outside Kensington dollar store

Police have identified a woman who was struck and killed in Kensington during a Christmas Day hit-and-run outside a Family Dollar store on the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue.

Denise Williams, 54, of the 5400 block of Euclid Street in Overbrook, fell on the sidewalk of the store’s driveway shortly after 8 p.m., when a black Dodge Charger made a right turn and mowed over her, according to investigators.

Police said an eyewitness saw the car stop and a woman get out of the driver’s side, then climb back into the car and flee. The suspected driver is described only as a Hispanic female in her 40s. The car was last seen traveling west on the 2000 block of Wishart Street, about five blocks away from the scene.

Williams was rushed to Temple University Hospital with head trauma, where she died shortly before 11 p.m. Investigators are now looking for the driver, as well as a female witness they say may be able to provide more details.
