Police Investigate Shooting on Market-Frankford Line

SEPTA passengers narrowly escaped harm Monday night after a gunman shot at a Market-Frankford Line train in Kensington.

The shooting was one of two incidents within a few hours involving SEPTA vehicles. The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the Somerset station. A SEPTA spokesperson said a male was on the street level being chased by two people on bicycles when he fled up the stairs, jumped the turnstile and ran towards a train as it pulled out of the station. The assailants gave chase and fired multiple shots, one of which struck the train.

The victim never boarded the train, but hid in the station until the gunmen left, the spokesperson said. Video surveillance has been given to the police to help them identify those involved.

The second incident happened around 1:30 in North Philadelphia. Officials said a man jumped on a Broad Street Nite Owl after being beat up. The bus operator called police. That incident is being investigated.

The incidents come on the heels of a June shooting when two men shot at a bus after a woman got into an argument with someone on the bus. Six people were arrested and video of the shooting was shown in court last week.
