Delaware state troopers are warning the public about a rash of lawn mower thefts in Sussex County over the past four months.

Police have since late April investigated over 30 such lawn mower thefts, the majority of them in central and western Sussex County.

The stolen pieces of equipment were all commercial grade, zero turn riding lawn mowers.

Most were left outside and unsecured.

In several cases, according to investigators, the lawn mowers were left on trailers, which were also stolen.

Police said the last theft occurred Saturday.

While officials don’t yet have information regarding a possible suspect or suspects, they are reminding the public to secure all lawn mowing equipment inside of a locked building when it’s not in use, and to not assume commercial grade lawn equipment is too heavy or cumbersome to steal.

Anyone with information on the rash of thefts is asked to contact Troop 4 at 302-856-5850, ext. 206 or 209, or to submit an anonymous tip by texting CRIMES (274637) with the keyword “DSP,” calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, by downloading the Delaware State Police Mobile Crime Tip App or by filling out this online form.
