Police: Missing Man Located With LoJack Technology

An elderly man who went missing from his home Sunday afternoon was found Monday with the help of LoJack technology, police said today.

The man, 77, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, disappeared around noon Sunday after leaving a residence on the 200 block of North 52nd Street. His family contacted police Monday around 3 p.m.

He was enrolled in a LoJack program for people with cognitive disabilites called SafetyNet and was wearing a locator bracelet that emits radio frequency signals that can be tracked by local public
safety workers.

When SafetyNet officials were notified, they activated the bracelet and supplied its frequency to South Detectives.

After an unsuccessful land search, detectives contacted the Aviation Unit, who told officers on the ground they were getting a strong signal at 18th and Moore Streets in South Philadelphia.

The man was located at 8:09 p.m. in good condition on the 1900 block of South 16th Street.
