Police recovered a stolen rental truck in Southwest Philadelphia early this morning.
The truck was taken from a U-Haul depot on the 1000 block of S. 12th Street at 7 p.m. the night before the tenth anniversary of 9/11, raising fears due to the burglars’ timing.
Investigators were concerned because similar vehicles have been used in the past as explosives or to transport bombs, according to reports.
Though reports have stated that four trucks were found – two on the 5400 block of Trinity Street, one on the 5300 block of Chester Avenue, and one on the 3200 block of N. Park Avenue in North Philadelphia, a police spokeswoman could only confirm that an undisclosed number of rental trucks stolen from the 1000 block of S. 12th Street were recovered from the 5400 block of Springfield Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia around 2:30 a.m.
