Police say South Jersey woman spat on EMS worker on Fourth of July

A New Jersey woman was spitting mad after sustaining a cut during the Fourthof July, and ended up in cuffs after taking out her rage on an EMS worker, police say.

Brittany Berger, 26, is charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct for spitting in the face of an EMS volunteer worker and kicking him, New Jersey State police announced Wednesday.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear.

“It’s never good to spit on someone, especially those who are trying to help you,” the state police said in announcing the charges.

The spittle reportedly flew after an EMS volunteer from Pattenburg and Perryville state troopers responded to a Bloomsbury Borough home at 12:42 a.m. on July 4.

Authorities were called because Berger, of Greenwich Township in Warren County, had sustained a laceration, police said.

“As a volunteer EMS worker tried to provide treatment, Berger spit on the victim’s face and then kicked him,” police said.

Berger was arrested, treated at Hunterdon Medical Center, and then detained at Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
