An officer shot a dog while pursuing a robbery suspect in Kensington early Saturday morning, police said.
Officers responded to a home on the 1800 block of East Thayer Street around 5 a.m. after they received word that a man was breaking into the residence. As they arrived, the suspect fled and ran into another home on the same block.
When police followed him inside, they were charged by a pit bull. An officer fired three rounds at the dog, hitting it once in the stomach, while the suspect escaped from the back of the house.
No arrests have yet been made.
