A man is in critical condition after he was shot by police during a traffic stop over the weekend.
Police said Maceo Emerson Waring, 27, of the 1100 block of South Paxon Street in Kingsessing, was pulled over during a routine traffic stop around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon on the 3200 block of Oxford Street in Brewerytown.
That’s when officers say they discovered Waring was wanted for his alleged involvement in the Sept. 10 murder of Naeem Giles, 24, who was shot multiple times and killed on the 4600 block of Horrock Street in Frankford.
As police attempted to remove Waring from the car to arrest him, he allegedly grabbed an officer’s service weapon and began to remove it from its holster. Investigators say the officers shot Maceo multiple times during the struggle for the gun.
Maceo is hospitalized at Temple University Hospital in critical but stable condition. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
