Pope Pub Crawl, Popepalooza and more places to eat, drink and party

After months of pope weekend speculation and trepidation, we’re predicting a festive atmosphere in the city as Philadelphians breathe a sigh of relief that it’s finally happening — which means finally almost over. For locals and tourists alike, here are a few choice spots to eat, drink and celebrate the pope’s visit like the sinners we are. Popepalooza on the river

Waterfront spot Morgan’s Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd.) is getting into the charitable spirit with Popepalooza, Friday to Sunday. Toast Pope Francis with local drink specials, including $3 lagers and $4 Victory Festbiers, and pope-themed beers Yopo from Cape May Brewing, Holy Wooder from Philadelphia Brewing and Cape of Good Hope from Yards. For every person who shows up, the restaurant will donate a dollar to one of three charities: Francis Fund, Mil Mujeres or PennEnvironment.

Eat like an Iron Chef

Almost all of Iron Chef Jose Garces’ Philly spots will be open this weekend for your dining and drinking pleasure, so make your dinner reservations for tapas at Amada or Tinto, seafood at The Olde Bar, Mexican plates at Distrito, burgers and elevated pub fare at Village Whiskey, or the $35 World Families Menu at Garces Trading Company. The restaurants will be offering 10 percent off for locals Friday to Monday: Just show proof of your address.

Pope party at POPE

The Pub on Passyunk East — known as the POPE — is hosting a block party on the 1100 Block of Dickinson Street Saturday and Sunday with food specials, games, live music and a cardboard cutout of Pope Francis just waiting to grace Instagram with you. Limited edition beers will be available, including Philadelphia Brewing’s Holy Wooder and Saucony Creek’s Pope Dennis the Phyrst. Stray from the POPE to take in the lively atmosphere along the Avenue, with Stogie Joe’s also throwing an outdoor party and other bars offering drink specials.

Pope crawl

Your first drink is free at this daylong Pope Pub Crawl, kicking off Saturday at noon. For $10, you’ll also get drink specials like $4 Miller Lites and $6 shots, and a map to guide you to the 20-plus participating bars. Full details are at Upcomingevents.com. Raise a keg

Monk’s Café (264 S. 16th St.) is already known for its Beer Bible, which lists out an extremely long list of available brews — some familiar, a lot you’ve never heard of — so we would expect nothing less than this weekend’s Pope-Pourri. Starting Saturday at 11:30 a.m., Monk’s is featuring 24 rare, “religiously inspired” brews on draft. But, much like the papal visit, this special is fleeting: There’s only one keg of each.
