Powerball jackpot grows to record $425 million

There were no jackpot winners from Saturday’s Powerball drawing, lottery officials said, setting up a record jackpot of $425 million for Wednesday’s drawing.

At least eight people matched all five white balls, 22-32-37-44-50, but missed the Powerball 34. That means the jackpot rolls over, creating the largest ever for the contest, with a cash value of $278.3 million.

The grand prize could go even higher because ticket sales pick up before a record drawing, lottery officials said.

The previous top Powerball jackpot was $365 million, won in 2006 by ConAgra Food workers in Lincoln, Neb.

In April, 48 SEPTA employees won a $172 million Powerball jackpot, and collected the $107.5 million lump-sum payment.
