PSPCA workers are currently removing dogs from two homes in Kensington.
“We’re on location right now,” said spokeswoman Wendy Marano. She said that a total of 33 dogs are being removed from two homes three or four houses apart on the 2000 block of East Victoria Street – 23 from one property and 10 from the second.
Marano said that police came to the properties during the course of a narcotics investigation when they discovered the dogs, most of which are Pomeranians and Chihuahuas.
“Conditions were horrendous,” she said. “A lot of the dogs were being kept in the basements – some in very small animal containers – and they couldn’t get around. They were filthy, with urine and feces everywhere. But they’re cute little dogs.”
Marano said that some of the animals will be taken back to the PSPCA shelter and some will be surrendered for evidence. It is unclear what charges will be filed.
