Halloween is not about the stereotypical evil, black cats this year but instead the cute and cuddely ones that are up for adoption. On Oct. 29, the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) is hosting the second annual
Howl-o-ween event at the organization’s headquarters on Erie Avenue.Howl-o-ween is a free, family friendly event that will include educational activities, craft making for the shelter animals, a scavenger hunt with prizes, story time, Halloween-themed treats and discounted adoptions.The family activities will occur from 12-2 p.m., with the adoption promotion on all cats and dogs continuing until 6 p.m.
The activities and crafts will be animal-themed in light of their mission at the organization and all animals will be discounted within a range of 10 percent to 50 percent off during the promotion. To add to the family fun, all three of the PSPCA’s locations, which include Erie Avenue, Fishtown and Danville, will run the promotion for discounted adopotions throughout the weekend of Oct. 29-31.
Parents, guardians or chaperones must accompany their children and be present during all the activities. There is also free, on-site parking for participants.
The
PSPCA is a nonprofit organization that has dedicated their mission to rescuing animals from abusive and neglectful environments in order to prevent animal cruelty. They are the leading advocate for animals since 1867.
Mandy Hood, the outreach and humane education manager, says, “We are really excited to host our second annual Howl-o-ween event. Last year it was a huge success with over 80 families participating in the fun and activities. It combines ‘howl’-o-ween fun with short, interactive lessons about animals at five different stations.” She continued: “Topics include: how to safely greet a dog, the science behind medical exams for our pets, and service projects that involve making cat enrichment toys and promoting adoptable dogs.”
