Ready to ride? Indego bike share service launches Thursday

It’s been hard to miss the bright blue Indego Bike Share docks getting installed around the city.

Today, the bikes will be ready to roll.

The Indego Bike Share program will launch at noon on Thursday in Eakins Oval with a ceremonial ride that’s open to the public.

There are multiple rental options.

Indego30 cost $15 per month and come with one free hour of biking. (Additional hours per ride cost $4 each).

IndegoFlex costs $10 per year, and bike rental costs $4 per hour.

For people who just want to swipe their card and ride, bikes can be rented for $4 per half-hour.

About 60 bike rental docks have been set up around the city. There will be 70 within a week, according to Andrew Stober, chief of staff at the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities. Bikes will be first be put out on the streets Thursday.

Meanwhile, Uber has offered a special one-day bike helmet sale to mark the day. Anyone who donates $10 through the taxi app to the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia Thursday gets a helmet. Uber will match all donations.

The $6 million project’s funding is split 50-50 between the city and a mix of federal and foundation funding.
