The Union have a rough going in the first round. They hope to buck the trend when they select third and sixth overall in Thursday afternoon’s MLS SuperDraft:
2015: No selections
2014: Pick No. 1, Andre Blake, Goalie – The Union sent the No. 2 overall selection and allocation money to D.C. United in exchange for Blake. For a top pick in the draft, Blake has severely underperformed but has shown signs of promise in seven starts with the Union. His record stands at 2-4-1 and has 33 saves versus 11 goals against in his career.
2013: Traded out of the first round
2012: Pick No. 13, Chandler Hoffman, Forward – Hoffman appeared in just seven games in one season with the Union. He registered zero goals, buried behind Jack McInerney and Antoine Happenot in the lineup. He was traded to the LA Galaxy for a conditional pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.
2011: Pick No. 5, Zac MacMath, Goalie – MacMath had an inconsistent career with the Union which ended tumultuously after the Union drafted goalie Andre Blake and signed goalie Rais M’Bolhi in the 2014 season. MacMath, who registered a 34-39-29 record with the Union from 2011-2014, was loaned to the Colorado Rapids prior to the 2015 season before being traded to the Rapids in December for a second-round draft pick in 2017. He’s the Union’s all-time leader in starts (102) shutouts (28) and saves (287).
