Recycle your Christmas tree in Philly this weekend

Unless you’re planning on lugging your Christmas tree out back and chopping it up for the fireplace, you’re likely dumping it on the curb, leaving that 50-pound Fraser fir for the trash collection.

But there’s a better way.

You can drop off your tree at several locations throughout the city on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, for eventual recycling.

Or, if you have a car, take it to one of six tree recycling centers around Philadelphia. Instead of withering away in a landfill, the tree can become mulch for gardens or provide nutrients for other plants.

Just don’t forget to remove all your ornaments and lights first.

The sixStreets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers: 3901 Delaware Ave.; 5100 Grays Ave.; 2601 W. Glenwood Ave.; 3033 S. 63rd St.; Domino Lane and Umbria Street; and State Road and Ashburner Street.

Drop off at these locations runs until Jan. 14. Locations are open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
