Reggie Bullock met with Sixers among others as free agency continues

The Philadelphia 76ers are showing interest in yet another forward in free agency. Former Houston Rockets forward Reggie Bullock has met with the Sixers, among other teams. Just a few years ago, it seemed like Bullock wanted to come to Philadelphia, posting on his Instagram story about the Sixers when he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks.

Bullock, an 11-year NBA veteran, spent last year on a minimum contract with the Houston Rockets. The former University of North Carolina forward has also played for the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers, among other teams. For most of his career, Bullock has been a three-point specialist, something that the Sixers seem focused on every year.

Last season, Bullock only appeared in 44 games for a young Houston Rockets team overflowing with young players needing minutes. Averaging only 9.5 minutes a game for the Rockets, Bullock wasn’t able to score much, averaging only 2.2 points per game.

However, despite not getting into a rhythm, Bullock still shot 40.3% from beyond the arc on 1.5 threes per game. Per 36 stats place that at just under six threes attempted per game. His shooting is something the Sixers always target under Morey. His fit next to Embiid is clear, and in a reserve role, he has shown the ability to step up when needed, like in Houston.

After his year in Houston, it’s important not to forget that just two years ago, he was playing over 30 minutes a game for the Dallas Mavericks as a part-time starter and key reserve. With the Mavericks during the 2022-2023 season, Bullock shot 38.0% from beyond the arc and averaged 7.2 points a night. He started in 55 games that year and appeared in 78 total. His 5.1 three-point attempts a game ranked sixth on the team.

At the tail end of his career, Bullock shouldn’t be expected to become a full-time starter at his next stop, but thanks to his shooting and his ability to stay ready on the bench, Bullock would be an excellent end-of-the-bench guy for the Sixers.
