Reid: Birds followed right protocol on concussions

To play or not to play? That was the question Andy Reid was bombarded with yesterday regarding concussed starters Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley.

The Eagles coach re-iterated the team took all the proper precautions before re-inserting them into Sunday’s 27-20 loss.

“We didn’t just stick them out there without having followed the protocol,” Reid said.

“We also made sure that we stayed on top of it when they came back off the field and made the decision when symptoms were there.”

Kolb and Bradley underwent concussion tests yesterday and were given the day off.

Later in the week, they’ll see a Center City neurosurgeon. Both players will have to pass a second test before they are cleared to play. Reid said they wouldn’t be able to practice before Friday, but he didn’t rule them out for Sunday’s game.

“Well, we’ll see,” he said. “I mean, we’re talking about Monday here and they have to go through all of this. Listen, I don’t want to do anything that puts these guys at risk.”

Michael Vick will likely run the first-team offense at tomorrow’s practice, but Kolb remains the starter.

“Kevin Kolb is the number one quarterback,” Reid said.
