Report: Eagles looking to bring back Brandon Graham in 2023

As free agency looms, all eyes are turning toward Philadelphia. The Eagles & Howie Roseman have some tricky decisions to make this offseason and one of those involves the future of Brandon Graham. Ed Kracz of Sports Illustrated reported today that there could still be another chapter in the story.

Brandon Graham staying in Philadelphia?

The veteran defensive end has had several close calls when it comes to emotional goodbyes. Up to this point, the Eagles have done all they can to keep BG on the team and have been rewarded greatly. There may be no finer example than this past season, where Brandon Graham bounced back from a torn Achilles in 2021 to put together a season like no other.

Graham registered a career-high 11 sacks at age 34, mauling his way through everything in sight and putting his name firmly in the ‘Comeback Player Of The Year’ conversation. He was ultimately robbed of that award despite numerous ‘NFC Defensive Player Of The Week’ accolades in his explosive campaign.

Is BG going to stay in Philadelphia?

We all know that Brandon Graham bleeds green and that he’d love to retire an Eagle. Because of the way his contract is laid out, the Eagles have to release him this offseason. If they cut him as a post-June 1 designation, the team saves an almighty amount of cap space as opposed to swallowing a ton of dead cap if they decide to do it before that date.

In an ideal world, the Eagles would release Brandon Graham and sign him to a new contract. That appears to be the case in Ed Kracz’s latest report, which states that the Eagles are looking to sign the Michigan product to a two-year deal at an average yearly cost of around $6M.

This isn’t the worst number in the world for a player who’s just posted a career-high in sacks, is a huge leader in the locker room, and is still a prominent starter.

It remains to be seen how the Eagles will attack free agency, but it looks as though defensive end won’t be their most urgent need provided that this deal gets over the line.
